Get to know me

My name is Ilse den Toom, and I am Mexican-German living in the US. I am an economist by profession, but years later, I decided to become a lactation consultant thanks to my first son, whom I breastfed from birth until he was 2.5 years old. Those last five months, I was pregnant with my second son. I have been breastfeeding him for 17 months, and expecting my third baby. All this time we have been enjoying our/my lactation journey. I lived in Germany for 4 years where I became a mother and lactation consultant. I learned that breastfeeding is a very natural and harmonious way to take your motherhood to another level. The knowledge of Germany and Europe that I have acquired is unique and very different from what I know about my own country, Mexico. 

 

I focus a lot on mom having the breastfeeding that she wants, that it is hers from the moment her baby is born but above all that, she loves her body and appreciates all the incredible things she is doing for her baby. For me, breastfeeding and sharing a bed safely is possible and beneficial for mom and baby. I greatly support breastfeeding in Toddlers (children over 1 year old) since for me it is essential for the two years of the child's life and also for the mother's health.
